Abstract

We present the record of the consumption and transfer of leaves of two species, Cynophalla flexuosa and Colicodendron scabridum (Capparaceae) by the bats Artibeus planirostris and Artibeus fraterculus, respectively. The finding was made in two localities of the province of Bagua and Utcubamba, department of Amazonas, between the months of January and March 2012, during an evaluation for bats for an Environmental Impact Estudy for 2D Sismic Prospecting and drilling of 02 wells in block 145, zone 1, ERM company. We installed 10 nets of mist in each sampling point, the nets were evaluated from 18:00 to 00:00 hours. Artibeus planirostris was captured in January, carrying in its mouth one leaf of Cynophalla flexuosa, and expelling pellets of this, while A. fraterculus was found in March, carrying one leaf of Colicodendron scabridum; both bats were pregnant females. We are presumed that these bats can consume leaf because of the source of protein and calcium that they could provide, but they are still having a frugivorous diet, which is corroborating with the finding of feces with seeds of A. planirostris.
